Sadly Sandy passed away after a battle with the "silent killer" ovarian cancer. She was a very dear person.

She was a talented and accomplished interior designer working for years with Steven Chase in the Palm Desert/Palm Springs area designing for high-end clients. Sandy was a dear friend at PHS. She taught me how to drive in her red VW and was the only person I ever cut school with!...to go hiking up to Henneger Flats! she always had a talent for design, color and furnishings even in high school

Sandi was my closest friend growing up and we stayed in touch occasionally even though I moved to the east coast about 25 years ago. I'm not sure I was her closest friend, but she was very much like a sister for me. We both adored our dogs - her dog was a Yorkie. Sandi was a steady person, appreciated good design, was very hard working and also filled with fun, daring and laughter. When we were probably all of 14, we would ride horses (unsupervised) at a gallop up and down the Arroyo Seco - such fun/so crazy! We spent summer vacations with each other's families - camping out and waterskiing with her parents at Lake Havasu despite 100-plus temperatures (day and night), and then hiking and fishing with my family at Mammoth Lakes. (We both agreed her family vacations were much more fun.) When we were 16, her family vacation included a day trip to Oatman, AZ where we each selected a small agate to keep as a reminder of our friendship: I still have my little agate so I am indeed reminded of Sandi and now appreciate even more our surprisingly innocent growing-up years.

Sandi was very close to her father who was always rebuilding the homes they lived in: when their home in west Altadena was finished, they moved to Sierra Madre where several more homes were rebuilt. Thinking on this now, I'm sure Sandi learned a lot from her Dad (a union contractor) about construction and design even before she went to San Diego State University for her degree in Business. Her husband was also a contractor and they created a beautiful home in the desert. Her achievements in the interior design profession in Palm Springs were not a surprise to me, and I was proud to know her. She is still missed, six years after her passing away unfairly early.
