I knew Bob well, was in a band with him at PHS....Nice guy with a great sense of humor. I visited Pasadena when in college at USC and ran into him in old town in 1973 or so - he was a school teacher somewhere after graduating from Lewis and Clark I believe....A couple of years later (about 1975) i heard he was found at his home - passed away. Don't know the details. A sad story about a very decent guy and good friend to many who loved him.

Bob and I were good friends.  We surfed together, I sat in with him in his band ("Feather" with Dave St. John), and I knew Bob's parents and younger brothers and sister.  We took a 14' outboard motorboat over to Catalina and surfed LIttle Harbor and Ben Weston.  Bob and I also went down to Baja and surfed around Ensenada. Ernie Posey, Bob McClean and I used to drive up to Alta/Utah and Sun Valley/Idaho, sleeping in my '65 VW panel van, on ski trips.  However, after we went off to college, I lost track of Bob.

In 1975, I was driving down State Street in Santa Barbara, visiting my sister who lived there, and I saw Bob standing on a street corner eating an ice cream cone.  I went around the block and to make sure it was him ... and it was.  For the next couple of days, we surfed together at the old oil piers (south of Rincon) and at Leadbetters.  Still, Bob was different ... mentally.  We laughed a lot, but his comments were random and he repeatedly stared off toward the horizon.  The next thing I heard, Bob was dead.  I still wish I could hear his laugh...

Bob and I went to Whitworth College in Spokane and became very close friends. We took countless trips between Spokane and Pasadena those years; some flying student standby and sleeping in airports, some driving with major mechanical issues and some hitchhiking, with attendant (mis)adventures.  We lived together  in a house off campus with a couple of other friends. We all had a great time and Bob was a great friend. One spring break, we all sailed to Catalina in his Dad's boat. Came back and caught Linda Ronstadt at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach.Great time. Some of my fondest memories were the adventures we shared over the four years we were in college. I had the pleasure of getting to know his family as well and was particuarly fond of his Mom, Elaine.

Jim mentioned the change in Bob mentally when he saw him in Santa Barbara. I last saw him in Sierra Madre after he moved back from Santa Barbara. Unfortunately, Bob went through some difficulties and passed away. .Still, I remember his smile, laugh, analytical mind and how much I enjoyed our time together. My favorite Bulldog.
