Marta, what fascinating and deeply moving tales.  You relate profoundly important history that many today are not taught in school, or worse, deny that it ever happened.

I'm sorry your Atlantic crossing to America was so rough.  I'm lucky to not be prone to seasickness, thank goodness.  On one westbound trans-Atlantic voyage about a dozen years ago, one of the speakers was a tall, stoic Jewish lady who told her story of escaping Nazi-occupied France over the mountains and into Spain.  There was no video, no Powerpoint, just she alone at the podium.  The theater was silent in rapt attention to her every word, told in a soft, gentle tone.  Her demeanor radiated maturity, wisdom and kindness.  When she was finished I had to walk up to the front to thank her, as did several others.  I couldn't help hugging her, and to my surprise, the tears suddenly flowed.

Your story is equally compelling and affecting.

All the best.

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words, Barbara and Joe and Ken!  It really pleases me that you found my pieces meaningful.

Important news about one of our PHS classmates:

If any of you remember Howard Morzov, he is going in for surgery tomorrow morning at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. Howard will be having 4 or 5 vertebrae fused in his mid-back area. So, he will be having a lengthy recovery and will be again off his feet for some time. The surgeons have pre-fit him with a 2-piece upper torso plastic clamshell type cast to wear when he is sitting or on his feet, so he’s good to go.

I’ve been occasionally seeing Howard in the afternoons outside of the Starbucks in Kersting Court in Sierra Madre, where some of us ‘old timers’ get together. He has a great medical assistant who brings him up in a wheel chair to get together with us. Anyway, if anyone is so inclined, here is his address so that you can send him a get well card:

Howard Morzov
103 E Sierra Madre Blvd., Unit A
Sierra Madre, CA 91024

Howard grew up in Upper Hastings Ranch, went to Don Benito Elementary, Marshall JHS, and PHS with many of us. IIRC, he beat me up in 4th grade over a girl!! Maybe this is why he went on to become an MP and then a member of the Pasadena Police Department…hmm!

Hi. I''ve been looking back through the posts here and it's great hearing from some of the classmates. Looking forward to the next reunion!

Camay White (Arad-Tullis)

Gary, Thanks for the info about Howard Morzov.  I will send him a card... but also tell him to sign up on the PHS website!!!!  All best.  It's great to hear you are keeping up with the "oldtimers" in Sierra Madre.

Dear Gary,

I have to agree with Camay, that it is wonderful of you to let class members know about Howard and his back surgery. I am going to send him a card as well. He's going to need a lot of patience and encouragement to go through this healing time. Both my husband and I have suffered in the past with back injury and pain. Thank God it is behind us, but the memory of the pain is not. It's always to great to be encouraged! :)

Hi Marta, thank you for posting your inspiring stories of faith and courage.   We take so much for granted these days, while so many on this earth have endured so much.  Hope to see you at the 50th.   bc

Hi Everyone, don't know what prompted this, but was anyone else besides me somewhat fascinated by the Rose Parade floats that were parked (after the parade) in Victory Park next to PHS?   Seems like each one had untold numbers of those single-stem flower holders carefully wedged into their intricately designed frameworks.  We got the chance to look at what was underneath all the glory (driving them must have been a kick) and see how they were constructed.....before they were ultimately hauled off to who-knows-where.  Another fringe benefit of going to PHS!

I understand that our Message Forum Website is 'free' but have an issue when our PHS Class of 1968 can arbitrarily be associated with an advertisement of  matter giving the impression, as a 'Class',  we are supportive of  a particular issue.   For example, the appearance of the petition to sign against Donald Trump's run for Presidency appears to reflect  PHS Class of 1968 is in consensus and supports that document.

The petition's ad clearly is within the same fold as our 'Class' giving the impression we are in concurrence.  I wouldn't have a problem if  'boundaries or margins' were utilized to provide separation of content from us as a whole.

What thoughts do the rest of you have?

Ken Roane

Hi.

The ads are displayed by the company that is providing the site. There are no Admin controls for us to say what does or does not appear. Hopefully after the election there won't be any pro-candidate or anti-canditate ads for a while. (I checked the code and Google is providing the ads for the site.)

Modie (Martin) Katz

Thank you Phil. We could eliminate the ads if we could have more donations to the class so that there would be a budget set for our web site. Please help us get to that level. Until then, keep an open mind and remember we are a Democracy with lots of opinions. Thanks for your thoughts

GOOOOOOOOOOOD      MORNING   EVERYBODY.

I too agree that the anti-Trump advertising is offensive. As most of you know, Modi Katz and I,Clay Werts, are the administrators of the upcoming "50th Class reunion" We are doing all that we can to keep the administration cost to a minimum. If anyone would like to make a generous contribution to the class reunion we could then eliminate the "free" website and avoid  ALL advertising on the site. If you would like to do this please let both Modi & I know and we can make it happen. You would however, need to fund the website for the next 2 years to make this happen and pass.  We encourage all of you to contact other 1968 P.H.S. class members that you know and get their contact information and pass it along to us. We hope to have a LARGE turn-out for the 50th class reunion. We are not spring chickens any more and we are not going to last forever. This reunion will be the biggest and best ever !  It is now 2 years away and we hope to make it a 3 or 4 day event. Nothing has been decided as of now.  One of those days will be at Pasadena High School where we will have the capsule that was buried 50 years ago removed from the ground. It is in front of the school near the cafeteria. We will all be able to enjoy what is found inside that capsule. Maybe we can enjoy an evening at the P.H.S. cafeteria with some1960's music and dancing and "In-N-Out"  burgers, of course. It is also hoped that we can arrange for our hotel stay and the main event to be in Pasadena. Just like life, how much we can do and where we can do it  will be determined by cost and revenue generated from all of you.  Please consider making a donation to : P.H.S.class of 1968 and mailing your check to 2212 Paseo Court, Las Vegas, NV, 89117. We will use your money wisely and for the good of all.

Have A Sunny Day

Good moring all,

After reading the posts on this thread, I was wondering if we could add a disclaimer to the website that the PHS Class of 1968 does not support the advertising that appears on this website.

Just a thought.....

07/03/16 08:36 AM #307

Camay White (Arad-Tullis)

You guys are great!  I think a disclaimer (like Gary suggested) embedded (spelling?) in the header of the site is a great temporary solution until we get more donations.  I did not know we could donate until Clayton wrote address (didn't pay attention to the menu bar where it clearly says "Make a donation"...hmm.  On that note I will indeed send a donation soon  (I have to move my buisness in 30 days - not retiring yet!  Also I love that Clayton described some of the activities that are being planned,  Could "50th Reunion" be added to menu bar so newcomers can see what's ahead?

Thank you to the entire reunion team for a great job.  It will be so exciting.

Have a wonderful Independence Day! from a "Star Spangled Girl" (I did Dramatic Interpretation on the Speech team for Mrs. Hardy! -I loved the Speech Team - anyone remember her?.

I personally don't care about any advertising on the site if it keeps it free. I also think that the ads reflect the sort of thing that your browsing history reflects. I often see ads from the sites I was shopping or just looking. I have never seen a political ad here, only Pottery Barn, Wayfair, animal rescue sites and others that I was perusing. I actually think it is geared to the individual user, I may be wrong of course, but as I said, I have never seen an ad that was political in nature. You can also just ignore things and comments that are not agreeable to you and just move on.

I just returned to this site again today and a John Aaroe Real estate ad showed up. It just so happens I have a house in escrow now and my realtor is from that firm. I am now convinced that the ads pop up according to your browsing history.

I have to admit as well, that I have not really paid attention to the ads but definitley feel that the sole purpose for this site is to keep PHS Class of 68 classmates connected!! It is for nothing else! I'm so glad that Clayton posted and pointed out where to send a donation! I'll be getting one in the mail soon as we're off to South Africa to visit son and wife next week! And this is important!  Like Camay, mea culpa, I never looked at the "Make a Donation" tab. Big thanks to both Modie and Clayton! Happy 4th! Happy Freedom....may it continue!

The Internet has changed a lot since I started using it about 25 years ago. (It has been around a long time, but it was far different back then.)   Things to remember if you are using a "free" service like gmail (and other google applications), Yahoo mail, facebook, twitter, etc., assume that data is being collected on you and being sold for advertising purposes.  To minimize the invasive effects of using the Internet, regularly run security programs like Malwarebytes, and install Adblock Plus on your browser.  You might also want to change to a "paid" email service to significantlly reduce scanning of your personal and business emails.  Doing these things is especially important if you use on-line banking and/or brokerage services.

Thank you, Modie and Clay. I, too, had wondered at the political ads and it's good to have that explained. And thanks also for pointing out the 'make a donation' button! It's so great to hear from so many classmates on this site. I'm looking forward to hearing from many more as our reunion gets closer. Let me know if there's something I can do to help with the reunion, too. I'd enjoy participating!

Although one's personal browsing history is definitely used by numerous sites (I did a quick check of fireplace mantels one day and was promptly dogged by mantel ads for weeks and months after), the bold "Say NO to Trump!" banner definitely does not reflect my browsing history.  I get the pro-Hillary/anti-Trump ads popping up all the time, no matter where I go online, and it can only be attributed to the bias and agenda of the obviously left-of-center host.  It would seem that somebody's working overtime and paying -- or being paid -- a lot of money to place these and influence the election.

Well, I just got an ad about "dating mature women" Clearly not my browsing history!  Have not seen any anti-Trump ads, but I'm not on this site much. Wouldn't bother me if I did! (Seems our poitics of the 60's continues!)

Happy 4th of July/Independence Day. I pray that the people of this wonderful country will look to the wisdom of the founding fathers of our nation as we decide the direction that we will persue for our future and the future of our children and our children's chidren. May GOD Bless you all!

The concerns over political advertising strike me as much ado about nothing. We're all adults, and we've all been shopping in the marketplace of ideas for decades. We're capable of gleaning what's worthwhile to us as individuals and dismissing what's left. There's nothing to fear in a wide array of opinions and much to fear in limited access to differing viewpoints. If you don't like something, say so ... but don't look to block the things you disagree with, because they may have value to others.
