Is there anything Kathy and I can bring to the Friday Pizza in the park event? Ice, beverages, etc?

If you have any games like bean bag throws or ring hoops, that would add to the entertainment. Otherwise just bring a happy face and smiles. Thanks for the offer. 😎

KB (Kathy) and I picked up a Bean Bag Toss game yesterday. We will come a little early and set it up. Need to know where in Victory Park though. On the PHS (Sierra Madre Villa) side or more toward the west (Paloma and Altadena Drive) side?

Many of us have relatives or friends who continue to battle cancer. I fight back as a Volunteer Legislative Ambassador for ACS CAN, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.  I just renewed  my donation page for the 2023 Lights of Hope fundraising campaign (Please click on link below).

We advocate exclusively on behalf of American Cancer Society.  We are the ones who petition Congress to secure more funding for cancer research, and we address legislatures on all levels--national to local--to fight for clean air and water, access to affordable, regular screening, and quality cancer care for all. We are there for you!

Please click on my link and consider making a donation of a multiple of $10 to sponsor Lights of Hope bags in support, in honor, or in memory of a cancer patient, an oncology team, or a caregiver.  Alternatively, you might write a suggestion on a bag like, "Get a Mammogram Today!" or "FUND THE CURE NOW!"  We can decorate your bags with a few words as designated and email you a photo before they are displayed.

We are mainly volunteers whose families have been touched by cancer. Your donations go far to support our life-saving work.  Thanks to those who have donated in the past!

Safe travels--and see you  guys soon!   margo.lightsofhope@gmail.com

When I first heard about the reunion last summer, I bought a dress on sale in hopes of getting to attend another one. (I have attended every reunion before this.) My husband and I made a reservation for the dinner, because I enjoy these parties. Reading your responses, there are certainly some people I would like to talk to who are coming to the gathering on Friday, but I can't promise to be there as well. We're going to have to drive a lot of miles plus take two flights across country to get there, and then find places to stay. Also, my health is rather iffy these days. But the Lord willing, I'll see some of you on one or both days!

It's a little late for me to say this, but I'd sure love to see some more graduates of James Madison Elementary School there this time. Several of the other elementary school groups got together last time for photos, but we did not. I will do my best to try to find and bring with me some old school photos of Ann and John and Frank and Miriam and Ruth and Linda, etc.

Blessings on you all!

Pauline Potts (Yonts)

Margo, thank you for once again posting the information about how to donate to ACS through the Lights of Hope campaign.  The Lights of Hope bags you made for our departed family and friends last year had an overwhelming effect of gratitude on the surviving family members.  Plus the donations go to a noble cause of research and prevention.  You may have seen by now that we just asked for more LoH bags on your ACS webpage.  Thank you, bc

Barry--

I noticed that you donated  from your home back east at 4:15 am PST.  It was sweet waking up in California to your kind words!  Thank you for valuing our advocacy efforts and for your repeat donation.  As you remarked in an email to me last year, California has been a role model for other states, as we have recognized the health benefits of requiring smoke-free environments in schools, restaurants, hospitals, hotel lobbies, and public transit. Recently, we made the sale of flavored tobacco, often targeted at addicting healthy teenagers, illegal in our state. (We advocate for so much more than just tobacco-related bills!)  We fight for increases in cancer research funding and for many bills on the federal level, too. The advocacy work that we do on behalf of American Cancer Society protects your family's health on a daily basis.

Some of our funding is from American Cancer Society, but regulations limit the amount  they can spend on advocacy of their life-saving mission.  Our  (mainly) volunteer-powered organization depends on donations to fight cancer.

If any classmates are still associated with a company,  please know that we also welcome company sponsorships and could really benefit from your support!  See link below:

2023_loh_sponsorships_opportunities.docx

If anyone has related questions, please write me at Margo.LightsofHope.gmail.com

Thanks again--

Margo

Loretta Packard (Luskin)

Dear classmates, I just learned yesterday from her husband, Dan, that our friend and classmate, Janet Wood passed away last Thursday, June 1, 2023 in Vallejo, CA. Janet had valianty battled leukemia for the past year. She was hoping for a bone marrow transplant, but unfortunately it could not occur.

She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now home with Him. No more suffering and pain. Janet was a smart, funny, quirky friend! The "bad" things I did in high school were mostly with Janet! Will miss her!

Loretta, thanks for letting us know.  But so sad.  Janet was a special Don Benito friend.  Especially tough to hear after losing both Barry Schwam and Bill Crowhurst in recent years.  Janet herself posted a picture at #964 on this Message Forum of us dancing at her 12th birthday party.  (Bill Crowhurst is also in the pic.)  I'm glad I was able to talk with her at recent reunions. Will miss her.  wW

Looking forward to seeing old classmates and friends this weekend!  Bring a coat or jacket for the Victory Park Picnic gathering - our SoCal weather has been bonkers this year and there's been predominant overcast and rain since February!  Drizzling now as I'm looking out the window in Hastings Ranch!

Please, please do not bring dogs to the Saturday night dinner at Embassy Suites.                                                         Be considerate of others. There are people with allergies and other issues regarding animals in general and dogs  specifically. Dogs will not be welcome or permitted in the banquet room.  Please do NOT bring your dog  to our reunion buffet dinner Saturday. Thank you for being considerate.

Hi Everyone, hoping all are enjoying the reunion!  I already received some great pictures of the Victory Park picnic.  Up until some weeks ago, I was planning to attend, but I felt committed to help chaperone a group of amazing Key Club members from the New England region to the Key Club International Convention in Anaheim the first week of July.  I could have made both trips to CA from our home in NH but that would have destroyed our summer schedule. On a positive note, our Key Club tour package to Anaheim includes a day at Disneyland (PHS class of '68 grad night) and a tour of various SoCal attractions, including the Griffith Observatory (that was one of PHS's field trips in '66 or '67).   So, some trips down memory lane are definitely in store.   Meantime, eveyone please enjoy the togetherness and fond memories at the banquet tonight!   Best wishes for good health and happiness.
