Modie (Martin) Katz

To Joe and Anne and anyone else that has the same issue.

We will be trying to get the Best Prices on the rooms at each of the Hotels we are looking at.  We will also set up a special fund for anyone that might need some help on the expenses.  We are just in the begining stages of the process so please don't despair and make attending the 50th reunion a Priority so that we can ALL enjoy your company.

Hope to see you ALL there.

It will be a BLAST!!

Anne, thanks for the offer and we will put you on the Registration Committee with Barry Chisholm who has graciously offered his help as well.  Maybe the two of you can begin to communicate with each other and perhaps get Cheryl Osti to give you here comments on what she did for the 45th?

Clay, The momentum is growing with our Donation Drive and we are ALL the beneficiaries from the kindness of the Group.

To All,

Its a rainy day in Northern Calif. ( El Dorado) so I am sitting in my living room with a fire going and reading the Message Forum.  I want to thank everyone that has contributed to the discussions and to our fund raiser so far. I know that it seems like a long time before our 50th reunion but it really takes a lot of prep and work to do what we are anticipating for this Big One.  Please help where you can. Committees are being formed, decision are going to be made, events are being looked at and you might miss out on all this fun if you don't act Now.

We have classmates that will need some financial aid to join us at this celebration. If you can help, please donate.

We want to have live music and food trucks at several events that will cost money to a arrange and if you can help, please donate

We have committees forming to help organize and distribute information, if you can help, let us know.

And  just as important, we would all like to have the best turnout we can for our 50th so make sure you let all your classmates know about this Special Once in a Lifetime event and make sure they all attend.

To that end, I am leaving for Maui in a couple of days to meet RODNEY Potter and his wife SUE to make sure they will be coming to the 50th. Someone had to do this job...

Till next time,

Camay and Anne - I clearly remember the suspension of Beck and John and if you don't mind I'll make a correction because the statute of limitations has likely passed and it seems permanet records from that era are fiction.

I was suspended along with the two of them because the three of us got caught smoking off campus, sitting at the lunch counter at the Headliner Coffee Shop, not in a bathroom.  Remember when smoking in a restaurant was ok?

This woman, a teacher, came up to us asking, "Aren't you boys from PHS?"  Her first clue:  the cheerleading outfits Beck and John were wearing.  I was wearing a sportcoat and tie because of some ASB thing I was involved in that day (btw, the exact sportcoat and tie in this picture) but due to a recent eye injury I was also wearing an eyepatch.

Not too long after that I was in Mr. Burns' office (Earlier that day Burns saw me in the hall and asked about my eyepatch and the injury.)   Aparently the teacher that busted Beck and John followed up with Burns about the "guy with the eyepatch, did you get him?"  Dots were connected.

Hi Everyone,

Peter, sorry you got suspended!   We weren't safe even off-campus back then.  Your post about the Headliner sure brought back memories.   My wife and I had a terrific champagne brunch there during the 45th reunion back in 2013.....think it's now called "The Only Restaurant in Town", or something like that.   One of the waitstaff did remember when it was called the Headliner.  Back in the 60s and 70s, I think it was across from Al's Chevron station, and on the same side of the street as the Toy and Patio Village (will long remember their generous bike mechanic Mr. Ower), and the Ford dealer.   The Ford dealer went out sometime in the 70s?   Unfortunately it was hardly a Cal Worthington-sized operation and went out of business like so many other dealerships in small towns.

Barbara Brandstetter (Ower)

Barry, that generous bike mechanic you remember at Toy and Patio Village most likely was my father-in-law Al. His youngest son Terry (Class of '66) is my husband. Al and his brother Chuck owned Toy and Patio Village for many years. My husband remembers working there during the summer months when school was not in session. Happy memories!

Modie (Martin) Katz

To All,

So my wife and I had a wonderful trip to Maui on our search for my classmates on the Island.  So I ran into Marc Minovitz and his wife Randie while we were visiting with Rodney Potter and his wife Sue (who also graduated from PHS in 1970)

The things we do for our 50th reunion.  But someone has to do it.

So find your old friends and tell them about our 50th reunion and have them sign up on our web site.

Take a picture and show us all so we know what to expect at the reunion.  Better yet buy a shirt with our logo on it and take a group picture.

Till next time,

My friend Beck Sanborn past last night. I am sadden that I didn't know he was ill. Life's journey is way too long/short. He has taught me to be in touch with who you love. As we all enter the 7th inning of our (Dodger/Angels?) game, I hope it ends in a tie and we all can go into extra innings. Miss you Beck.

Truly sad and did not know he was ill.  Have touched base a few times but not gotten together though he lived only about 15 miles north of where we retired.

Hi Dan! Talked with Gary Warschaw today. Beck lived on Meadowbrook in Altadena very close to my home on Midlothian. My next door neighbor was Katie Shaw's family. Her brother Dick knew Beck's sister Nancy. Gary provided phone number for Beck's wife in Eagle Point, Oregon. Katie talked to Valerie Taylor-Crow, Beck's 2nd wife. She said Beck had battled laryng cancer for a year. He passes at 7:05 AM two days ago. They will have Beck's Celebration of Life in early 2017. She will let Katie know when date and location are set. They lived last in Eagle Point, Oregon.

Modie, it's a small world. Marc Minovitz is the brother of Lori Minovitz who was married for many years to my brother Bill. Sadly, Lori passed away in 2006 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

...Was very sorry to hear about Beck's passing; he will be missed;

A light of hope... after a day or orientating volunteers at Santa Anita for this next week's Breeders Cup Races, I ran into Chris (Cruz) Trevino at Santa Anita today, one of his local haunts in the Pasadena/Sierra Madre area.  He's doing well.

Also, on the way home to Hastings Ranch, I ran into Howard Morzov and his daughter in the center of Sierra Madre.  His spinal surgery/fusion from 6 months ago is healing well, and he is now walking up light slopes with the help of a walker and his daughter.  Their goal (for him) is to walk unassisted with a cane by Nov. 15th; he's well on his way.

Still running into some of our other classmates like Bill Crowhurst, and passing by PHS at least twice weekly.  PHS now has barricaded fences around the perimeter, and a full time Pasadena Policeman assigned to the campus that the school district pays for....quite a ways away from 48-years ago when we had a rent-a-cop in a Cushman Cart.   HOWEVER, we had to face Mr. Craft, with his Size 20 basketball shoe!!

Best for the coming weeks,

Gary Hesse

We would like thank Eli Roth for his donation of $ 100.00 to the P.H.S. 2018 reunion.

This now brings us to 43 % of our goal of reaching $ 10,000. for the reunion. It is very important

that we reach that goal to accomplish all that we have planned for the reunion. Thanks again to all

that have donated to this point. Modie and I promise that all money raised will be used wisely and

for the good of all. Please make a donation to:

Thank you my cousin Ele,

How about getting all your PHS contacts like Paul ( Jack), Brian, etc. to follow your generosity with a donation and sign up on the web site.

We are almost there...

Hey, I just received my PHS shirt and it took a long time to get here. So order soon and often. The reunion gets 12% of the proceeds.

They are nice shirts and you can wear it to the reunion with pride.  Hope we will see a lot of them there.

Till then,
