Hi Bill, hope you had a happy birthday!   Your picture inspired me to post a picture of me wearing my PHS '68 hoodie and enjoying our favorite winter sport!   (Just kidding, we like skiing and snowshoeing better).

We would like to THANK all of those who made a contribution in 2016 to the P.H.S. 50th reunion. We are now only 17 months away.  As of now we have raised $4,550.00 and have a balance of $4,504.21 with the only expense being for bank checks. We will need to make deposits on venues beginning this coming  June 2017. We have planned an exciting 3 day event that you will remember for the rest of your life. This will be a FUN event that will be worth spending your time and money on. It will be the vacation of all vacations. If we are to do all that is planned we will need to raise addional money. PLEASE consider making a donation. We will use the money wisely and for the good of all. Make your check to:

Hey everyone!  ... Just wanted to post an observation about the campus at PHS.  While going by the campus the other day on Washington Blvd. (the eastern border of the campus) I noticed that in the area of the lunch area and pergola, they had torn-up the entire area to the east of the canteen and it's covered area and have planted a vegetable garden there! ... Must be that Home Economics class!!

The way the newspapers convolute everything lately with their headlines, the Pasadena Star News will probably headline this tidbit as "Pasadena High School finds a new way to matriculate Vegetables!"

Has anyone noticed that when Modie or Clayton puts a post on the message forum it kinda goes blank for a while?  No disrespect intended, they are both doing a great job in heading us towards a fantastic 50th reunion next year!

Have a great day!  --Gary Hesse

Was anybody else intimidated by coming down that huge set up  concrete steps to the pergola at lunch time? I hated walking into the relecting sun, trying to find friends while squinting. ~Maja

Hi Maja,  I always have remembered those steps and associated them with the pep rallies before important football games.  I also remember that when we were at PHS some of the teachers felt self-empowered to enforce the dress code - Pity the poor girl being stopped in front of the home economics room by Ms. Harding and her six-inch ruler!  She made them get down on their knees and then measured the distance from the ground to their hem line!  IIRC, if the dress was too short you either had to go home or have the hem taken out!

Gary, You just jogged my memory! YEOW! I was a victim of the ruler on the very first day of school our Senior YEAR! I had barely arrived on campus excited to see everyone after having the summer off. But I got caught and was ushered into the office to have my hem length checked! It was too short and so my hem was ripped out!. It was pretty mortifying to spend that first day looking all ragged. For some odd reason I remember the dress- a cute blue polka dotted A line with a gold bib front. Think it was the only time I ever got into trouble in High School....didn't get caught with the oranges that Janet Wood had that had been injected with vodka surprise

what steps?  what hem?  what sun?  it was the smog or the doob that somebody made me inhale

Are you sure they are planting a vegtable garden in the pergola area? Now that you folks still at the old town on the Left Coast have legal weed, they are probably planting it, so that you don't have to smuggle it into the quad like we used to, to enjoy with nice fresh oranges.... We out here on the Right Coast are a little more backwards

The only time I ever used the Pergola was to buy M&M peanuts to eat in Mrs.Doris Benulis' Government class (which was out in the armory.) Does anyone else remember trekking out to the Marine armory building for class?

I just got back from Park City, Utah visiting my daughter's family. My grand kids are growing so fast. Anyway, I just read about Craig Stewart passing away. He lived near me in Hastings Ranch. I was looking forward to seeing him again at the 50th. Does anyone know where his twin brother, Chris is? We all attended Don Benito Elem together. Also, I remember those steps at PHS. Drill team used to perform at pep rallies on those steps. Fun memories. And I remember about the dresses needing to be as long as to our knees. Kinda silly - dresses look better showing the knees. Our drill team uniforms should have been shorter too. Loretta - You have always been so short and cute. I can't imagine your dress being too short for your body. Mean teachers! Everybody - thanks for the fond memories. Looking forward to seeing you all at the 50th.

Nice to hear your family is well and you get out to see them.

Craig did not have a twin. I lived two doors away from him and we were best friends till High School.

You must be thinking of someone else.

Stay well and thanks for any help on the reunion.

Hi everyone,

You are thinking of Chris and Craig Kinard. Chris was the badminton player and went on to win National Championships in the 70's.

Jane is correct. The twins were Craig and Chris Kinard.

Chris moved for a time to Malaysia for his badminton before back to Pasadena on south Lake. Ran into him and his dad at U Washington during a Thomas cup round. His dad had also been a little league coach. He called out my name when I was still 20 ft away. Nice family

Chris and Craig Brown are twins. Find them in the year book. I hung out with Chris in High School, and the last time I saw him he was headed to college in Arizona in September of 68 to the best I remember.

All the memories started when Anne thought that Craig Stewart had a twin.

Now we need to get Chris and Craig to join our reunion web site so that they may come to the 50th reunion and we get more stories about them. Anybody help??

Craig was on the B swim team with me at PHS.  I had Chris in one of my classes at Cal State LA.  I know that  he also trained in Indonesia with their national team and might have married one of the players.  This was according to my dad as both of my parents are from Indones

We had a few sets of twins in the Class of '68; both identical and non!  Off the top of my head I can think of Chris and Craig Kinard, Chris and Craig Brown, Margaret and Pat Mahoney, David and Pamela Thompson, and Dan and Peter Gallup.  Just over 1% of pregnancies resulting from natural conception result in twins, so maybe there are more I did not know about or remember; there were ~1100 of us in our class IIRC!  Growing up in Upper Hastings Ranch, AKA 'Rabbit Hill', I also remember Jim and Ron Stockfleth; they had a sibling relationship similar to Cain and Abel.  Anyway, Jim passed away in 1995, and Ron passed away in 2004 from cancer of the kidneys.

We all had different experiences from the opportunities available to us at PHS between 1965 and 1968, and I for one feel very lucky to have been in our class and had the opportunity to experience the classes, sports, clubs, friends, and other non PHS related activities such as spring weekends going down to half-moon bay in Laguna Beach or the upper part of Newport Beach with the water polo/swimming team friends, Key Club/Aurora get togethers, etc.

Stay Healthy

Gary one of my favrite places to go was Crescent BAY in Laguna on Cliff DR.  In fact Nancy Narcowich"s dad rented a beach house there.  I took my wife to that beach when we were just married.  I still remember all of the times we swam out to Seal Rock, climbed it, and jumped off.  Fortunately all of these events took place before I saw JAWS.
